Graduation and West Caroga Lake

From Conesus Lake, we traveled to Gloversville, Schenectady and Caroga Lake to be with family. Our grandson, Jacob, graduated from Mohonasen on June 25, 2016, and it was a great gathering at Proctor's Theater...close to 300 in his class. He graduated with high honors and was on the National Honor Society.

From there, we went to Sake for hibachi! On the left is our grandson, Sam (who will graduate next year), on the right our granddaughter, Megan (who graduated a couple of years ago), and her boyfriend, Austin, in the middle...all fantastic young people!

More NY pizza!

In addition to graduation, we celebrated our son-in-law's birthday at Reel Seafood on Friday night. On Sunday, we had a picnic at our grandson, Michael's. Amanda, his wife, knows how to feed us...she is a great cook and makes the best potato salad and dips ever! Their daughter is almost 4 and we all had fun playing with her Play-do!

Drue and I started the day out by attending worship services at the Caroga Lake chapel and ended up watching the sunset before our return to Gloversville. It was one of the most memorable weekends on this trip!

New York State of Mind!

We left North Carolina at 8 AM and by 6 PM we were at Conesus Lake with my brother and his wife. We were in a NY state of mind and celebrated with NY pizza! How we miss that in Florida. My sister joined us the next day and we had a great 3 days together. We even got to have lunch at the American Hotel one day. Perry breezed through PA so we didn't have to stay overnight there!!

If you are ever near Lima, NY...Rose makes the best soups!!
http://americanhoteloflima.com/ I have two of her cookbooks which are a fun read. I need to get one more!!!

Romania

Today we had a taste of Romania at lunch! We were invited to lunch at our friend's home in NC. What a blast...laughter, serious talks and great food! One of the dishes was Mici, which we had never had...yummy!! Our friend's mother made Romanian cupcakes. She needs to open her own bakery!!! We hope to meet again on our trip home.

In addition to the Mici, her mother had grilled steak. The avocado salad was scrumptious and the potatoes were from a Blue Apron recipe. We WILL be subscribing to that in July.

Here are the Romanian cupcakes...

We were really blessed today even though we didn't go to the vineyard. Tomorrow it's off to PA for a night then off to the Finger Lakes. We're so thankful we could travel.

Vacation Time!

My regular posting of cards I have made will pretty much be on vacation  until July 13! Perry's oncologist has pushed his chemo off for a week so we can get away to NC and NY for a birthday and graduation celebration. Our first destination was Childress Vineyard in Lexington, NC. We made our first stop in Brunswick, GA and had a wonderful dinner at the Mill House. We would definitely return!

Not only do I love making cards, but I love food! Perry had a steak salad and I had shrimp penne ala vodka with fresh tomatoes. The bread for dipping was most excellent as well!

Then it was off to Childress. On the way we saw this...it even sounded like the truck from The Duel

We made it to the vineyard by noon and had a delicious lunch at The Bistro.
Seasonal salad with grilled chicken. The watermelon radishes, spiced sunflowers seed, fava beans, heirloom tomatoes and honey-mint dressing were to die for!

The view from "our" gazebo at the vineyard.

The view of our hotel from the vineyard. We have a room with a vineyard view.

Grapes along the walking trail.

My wonderful hubby of almost 47 years.

Patriotic Stripes

I am on a patriotic kick, since 4th of July is around the corner. Therefore, I'm entering this card in 2 challenges. Just Add Ink and Paper Players (just made it under the wire!). I am such a fan of Mickey Mouse...there is probably a challenge out there that I don't know about! The "how to" is very self-explanatory. I did not have Dapper Denim for this one so I had to choose Night of Navy. I adhered Real Red, as I had no Cherry Cobbler with me, to a Whisper White circle. The stars were punched from Silver Glimmer paper. The little piece of navy on his forehead was cut from a circle and adhered. Hope you enjoy. We are traveling at the moment and I have my Paper Pumpkin boxes with me plus bare necessities for creating cards.

Star Spangled Banner

I decided to enter another challenge sponsored by The Paper Players. The Paper Players Challenge #299 and this first card was inspired by LeAnne Pugliese. Like LeAnne, I wanted to use this for another challenge she chose...CAS Colours and Sketches #177

The background is a Darice embossing folder and I sponged it with Dapper Denim. The star and sentiment are Dapper Denim as well. The sentiment on the star is from Taylored Expressions. The stripes are not Cherry Cobbler, but at least it's red and a SU color and stamped with the hardwood stamp! This card goes to my boy penpal. I hope he doesn't mind the bling...I thought it would stand for "spangled"!

The next card is similar to one I had my card group make a couple of weeks ago and I decided to CASE my own card! I only wish I could have lined up the "of thee I sing" better. Oh, well, I sing a little off too! This will go to my girl penpal who sang "My Country tis of Thee" a few weeks ago at a Cystic Fibrosis walk.

These two penpals are brother and sister, both have had Cystic Fibrosis since birth and they are both patriotic. They were looking for a penpal and I decided...what better way to share my cards and growing passion. I just hope the medical field finds a cure for this awful disease.

My First Crop

Today I attended my first "crop" sponsored by A.J. Florist. Four of us from our card group and two friends attended. This is what I made...

The above card was part of a Paper Pumpkin kit and I just embossed the card with Richard Garay's Pine Needles folder. I love it and think I need it for Christmas! The following card was just a normal "think inside the box" card from the same kit. The DSP is pretty though!

The next card is from that same kit but I used the stamp set from the April PP kit. I love that stamp set!
This card was made from the May PP kit but thinking "outside the box". I made it for my 7 year old female penpal who loves purple, pink and flowers!

Yankees

I made this card for my 10 year old male penpal...it's his favorite baseball team!

Peek-a-boo

This card was CASEd from Tami White and she called it the Peek-a-boo. She has a great video on it on You Tube so I won't explain how it is done or the paper/stamps/dies she used!

Someone is 97!

My friend's cousin is turning 97 at the end of this month. I punched 97 candles and colored them as well. It's a plain card but the world is a brighter place because of him. He still drives people to church and takes care of others!

Love You Lots

Love the "Love You Lots" stamp set. It's a hostess stamp set, which I was able to pre-order, as a demonstrator, from the 2016 - 2018 SU catalog. It is so stinkin' cute! The sun is from "Kinda Eclectic". I CASEd it from The Happy Stamper.

Botanical Blooms

This card was made using the botanical dies from SU. The flowers are done in Wisteria Wonder. The sentiment is from Picture Perfect. The card was CASEd from Vicki Burdick.

Flag Day

Flag day will soon be upon us and I made this patriotic card for it. I am thinking of writing part of the Pledge in the white stripes.

It's because of our soldiers that we are free. I have heard somewhere that butterflies are free too. These four certainly are!
The card base is Sweet Sugarplum. The strips are Peekaboo Peach, Emerald Envy, Dapper Denim and Flirty Flamingo. The sentiment is from a Paper Pumpkin kit.

Flirty Flamingo!

I didn't think I liked the new SU In Colors 2016 - 2018, but when I used Flirty Flamingo with Melon Mambo and Basic Black, I think I created a win/win situation! Stamp sets used were Kinda Eclectic and Gorgeous Grunge.

Kindergarten

I was asked to create 16 cards for a teacher to give to her class. I created all the same card for the boys and girls BUT made each one with something different on it. Hopefully, the inner city children, who have never received a card, are able to "spot the difference." These are just a few inside and out.
