Stampin' Up! Good Morning Magnolia Thinking of You Card

Good Monday Morning, peeps! Yeppers, Crazy Cousin is returning for the second time this month as Guest Designer for Double Trouble Paper Crafting! We have a new challenge for you and I hope you'll join in the fun. Just click on the link for Challenge #67 Off the Edge. Please, come along and get into trouble with me!

I'm sure you'd like to see the three challenges and it would be my pleasure to show them to you...

"On, Off, or Over the Edge?"

Thing 1: Trouble Maker says, "We've all just about reached the proverbial edge with this ongoing pandemic. Let's not panic! We need to stay focused at a time like this so let's focus on a sketch from TSOT below. Keep it simple... take advantage of the shape that's off the edge by using shapes, paper, doilies, frames, sentiments and/or partial images, etc."

You can stop here...
OR, you can choose to go further over the edge with Twisted Sister's Optional Twist below.

Thing 3: Twisted Sister
says, "There she goes again, Trouble Maker is trying to push me over the edge. So whether it's "On, Off or Over the Edge"...   whatever ... let's just do it!  Try to go beyond your edge, veer away from your normal comfort zone, and create a project using one of the techniques in "Off the Edge". Here are some tutorials by Jennifer McGuire that may be useful."

Thing 2:  Double Dare
says, "If you followed the sketch then link your project to Try Stampin' on Tuesday's Biweekly Sketch Challenge (TSOT) HERE whether you used Twisted Sister's optional twist or not. You will receive an additional chance at the Double Trouble Random Draw."

Feel free to change the orientation... rotate or flip the sketch or use its mirror image.

So, for Thing 1's challenge, I did concentrate on TSOT's sketch. However, I got dizzy running around in circles so I changed the circles to Magnolia buds!

For Thing 3, I did a new technique for me...partial die cutting. I watched a video by Lynn Dunn on You Tube. It took me three tries before I got it right! The first time I had stamped my flower in the wrong place, the second time I was distracted and did a full cut...three times...a charm AND I had a die cut for one of the buds! All I needed to do was cut one more to resemble the sketch. So, let me give you some bare-bones steps I took to stay out of any more trouble and items I used.
  • Cut card base - 4 1/4" x 11" (I used Rococo Rose)
  • Score on long edge at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2", fold and burnish, then fold back the 2 3/4" section. This creates what is called a "Z" fold (for those new to stamping)
  • Create a mask for the Magnolia bud that will be partially die cut (there are lots of videos on masking)
  • Cut a piece of Whisper White 1 3/4" x 4" to stamp the border image with your mask in place (see you just can't avoid masks these days!). The stamp is from the Ornate Style Stamp Set
  • Remove the mask (I'll be happy when we all can do that permanently!), stamp the actual bud and do a partial die cut. You place your top cutting plate to just cut half the image. There are many videos out there that can help you if you aren't sure of what I mean. I don't want to get you in trouble!
  • Tie a piece of Black Baker's Twine (retired) around the panel
  • Color all the buds and adhere the two fully cut ones with liquid glue and Dimensionals (the partially cut one I colored with watercolor pencils as Blends would have bled through) I used Flirty Flamingo and Garden Green Watercolor pencils and a Blender Pen
  • Emboss the front flap (I used Greenery) and then adhere the bud panel, adding three colored pearls (colored with Rococo Rose Dark Blends)
  • Cut a piece of Whisper White 2 5/8" x 4" and adhere as shown in pic
  • Cut a piece of Designer Series Paper 5 1/4" x 4" and adhere to inside of card
  • Stamp sentiment (Good Morning Magnolia) directly on DSP (I used In Good Taste)
I finished my project by adhering a matching piece of DSP to the envelope flap and stamping a bud on the front, coloring it with my Light and Dark Rococo Rose Blends and Light Granny Apple Green Blends.

To comply with Thing 2...she's such a Double Darer...I need to leave you now so I can go enter my card at TSOT #476

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you'll play at Double Trouble. Like I have said many times, their challenges are so much fun. I have enjoyed my time as Crazy Cousin for the month of September and I thank the Design Team for that honor. It stretched my thought processes and creativity.  Now I'm off to see what other trouble I can find! Have a blessed day!
