We live in southwest Florida and need rain desperately. So, when I saw the Tuesday Throwdown #337 Tropical Critters Challenge, I just had to get out my Stampin Up Pop of Paradise set. Then when I thought of rain, I thought Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral for my tropical critter and Pool Party for the blue skies we have been having every day. Well, Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge #261 had just those colors. Now all I needed was a sketch to give me inspiration...et voila (to quote another card maker!) Tuesday Morning Sketches #397 inspired me!!
I used Smoky Slate for my card base. My mat of Pool Party was embossed with the Softly Falling TIEF to make it look like rain. I water colored a piece of paper with Smoky Slate and also used the "rain" stamp from Gorgeous Grunge. The baker's twine is from a dollar store. I stamped "There's no special reason for this card" on Calypso Coral using Smoky Slate ink and sponged the edge of the retired Decorative Label with Smoky Slate as well. I added 3 little Calypso Coral enamel dots to give it more balance. I sponged the edges of the card base with Calypso Coral. Now that I look at it, I'm wondering if I should color in the flamingo...that is not a rhetorical question...I'd like your input! I'm not totally thrilled with this card, but then there was no special reason for it except to bring on the rain!! Update 4/6/17...I redid the flamingo per Mary's comment AND added Smokey Slate to the feet and beak. Guess what? It rained this morning!
Thanks for looking, and hopefully leaving a comment :-)
Well....if you've got the Watercolor Pencils, use the Calypso Coral pencil to lightly color in the flamingo. I think it'll let the stronger "feathers" show thru and just add a little pop. Et Vloia! ;) Cute card, Karen - hope it brings the rain!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary! I will try that. We might get rain tomorrow. BUT what will Savannah get?
DeleteSavannah will get an onslaught of Stampin' Up! demonstrators and...a brand new catalog!! :)
