Stampin' Up! Magical Mermaid

My card today is both mythical and magical, don't you think?

Because of that, I've decided to play along with three challenges...in no particular order!

JUGS431 - Mythical or Magical

Allsorts Challenge #458 - Fairy Tale  (based on the Little Mermaid) and Get Creative Challenge #67 - Fantasy/Mythical The last two are new for me so I hope you'll check out their sites, along with Just Us Girls.

I created this card for my 9-year-old pen pal's birthday next week. She and her brother, Edgar, both have cystic fibrosis. They will spend the next year serving as children's hospital advocates and raising awareness for cystic fibrosis! They are two fantastic kids.

My card base is Pool Party. I stamped the front in Pool Party ink with the background image from Magical Mermaid. It has the cutest little crabs and shells on it, along with bubbles. I ran it through my Big Shot using a Cuttlebug embossing folder, which reminds me of rolling waves.

I then cut a piece of Very Vanilla big enough to contain two pieces of seaweed (or seagrass if that sounds better), the mermaid and the sentiment. I aligned the sentiment with my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and stamped it in Berry Burst.

Then I stamped more bubbles with another stamp from that set. On each side I stamped the seaweeds using Versa Mark Ink, sprinkled them with gold embossing powder and set them with my heat tool.

I stamped the mermaid on a piece of Very Vanilla using Versa Mark again and heat embossed her with gold embossing powder. Using the bottom as a template, I fussy cut her tail from retired Bermuda Bay glimmer paper. The top of her body is also fussy cut. I colored her hair with my light Daffodil Delight Blend and her hairband with my Berry Burst Stampin' Write marker. She is raised up on the card front with Dimensionals.

For the inside, I stamped the sentiment in Berry Burst on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. Then, using Versa Mark ink again, I stamped a piece of coral from the retired By the Tide stamp set. I sprinkled gold embossing powder on it and melted it with my heat tool. I put a mat of Bermuda Bay and a mat of Very Vanilla under the art piece. Once I had everything glued to the card base, I added a die cut in Bermuda Bay. I borrowed the die from a friend last year and cut out many colors so I don't know the manufacturer, but I sure do love it!

Thank you for visiting today and I hope you'll come back tomorrow. Have a magical day.

  2. I agree wholeheartedly that your card is both mythical and magical...but I'll 'up' you by adding that it's also absolutely gorgeous! The embossed background and strands of seaweed are perfect pairings for your stunning, shimmery mermaid, who certainly is the star of the stage! The inside details...lovely! What adds even MORE impact to your card is your purpose in making it for your pen-pal. She sounds like quite the dynamic young woman and is sure to be a strong, motivating advocate for CF! I'm in awe...of your creativity and your thoughtfulness! Thank you for sharing this gem - and its story - in the JUGS gallery!
