Stampin' Up! Graceful Glass and Gorgeous Grape

The first fail...
It's a piece of new Graceful Glass Vellum, which I painstakingly colored with my Stampin' Write Markers on the back side. I thought it was dry UNTIL I sponged Tombow liquid glue on it and adhered it to a piece of Whisper White. I was so upset ... I needed it for a birthday card this week.

So, back to the drawing board. I've done that quite a bit this week. I decided to color on the front of the vellum instead. That was much better but I wish I had stuck to the same design/color of the failed one. Here's what I ended up with...

Dragonfly Journeys #119 - Somewhere Over The Rainbow is a site I haven't played with for awhile so I thought I'd give it a go today.

I used 14 different colored markers! I used the new Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies and the new Big Shot Embossing Mats to make the impression on the left side of my new Gorgeous Grape card base. That is so awesome as to how that works. You can see Rachael Tessman demonstrating it here

The sentiment does not make me happy. I should have used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig (retired) to get the Happy and the Birthday closer together (it's from Vertical Greetings and I cut it in two). Then I could have trimmed down the edges so it would fit on the same die cut done in Copper Foil. I had to cut two of those, pieced them together and the seam is quite obvious. I stamped the sentiment with Versa Mark ink after cleaning the surface of the card stock with my Embossing Buddy. Then I heat embossed it with Copper Emboss Powder. I used Dimensionals to raise it up off the foil. I tried to dress it up with Copper Metallic Thread and to me it looks like I have a couple of loose hairs on the stained glass panel. That could be because I was almost pulling my hair out at that point...lol.

I used two different sized stamps from the new Detailed with Love stamp set using the new Gorgeous Grape ink for the corners. The larger one I stamped full strength and the smaller one I stamped off once. It just seems unbalanced to me...guess it reflected the state of my mind at that moment. However, I was not ready to pull my hair out yet...that happened when I saw smudges of ink on the panel so I had to sponge it. The sentiments are from Sunshine Sayings.
The only saving grace is that the recipient loves purple! Perhaps I was trying to channel Dali or Picasso? But it's just another hot mess created by moi! BUT remember it IS my favorite color and it is over at Crafting with Dragonflies too! # 105 - The colour purple.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope I get my mojo back tomorrow.

  1. Love those new colors...even the purples! I actually think that the first panel looks just like stained glass...it looks great in the photo! :)

  2. Don't be so hard on yourself! Your 'failed' card is pretty too. Real stained glass often has streaks and swirls, so to me it looks authentic.
Both are lovely, and a lot of work!! I hope the recipient appreciates your dedication to making this card for them.

    1. Thank you, Julie. I'm sure she will. I thought that too about real stained glass but I couldn't bring myself to use it :-)

  3. I like both colorings but like you, prefer the first. I am so sorry the glue messed it up but I love the almost marble-like look of it. It reminds me of windows where glass that was not perfectly clear was used. I know it is not a SU product but there are adhesive stickies just for vellum. I cannot get up at the moment to tell you the name of the company (broke my ankle yesterday) but I think it is Pioneer. I get them at A.C. Moore and they have never failed me. Maybe an alternative would be to frame out the vellum and the frame would help hold it down. I also wonder if a spray adhesive would work? Regardless, I think your finished card is lovely and any recipient who loves purple should be delighted. I would not scrap the first one. Too pretty to toss it. Oh, you could mount it in the front of the card after cutting a window and then tape it on the backside, and cover that page with a pretty paper. Yes, I am great at making more work for people -maybe because I know I won't be doing too much card marking for the next few weeks until ankle and knee calm down.

    1. Nancy, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a great comment. I will look that product up. I am so sorry you broke your ankle. I imagine you are in a cast but hope it's not for long with summer on its way. I pulled the failed one out of the recycle bin :-)

  5. DO NOT throw it away! I will be very useful. Sometimes hairspray will work to set the inks. Try that first on a scrap!! Lovely card - both of them. Thanks for sharing with us at Crafting with Dragonflies.
