Our Journey from Friday through Tuesday

Our pain management doctor is the neatest guy and has the greatest office. Because of my husband's new pain and infected port, we couldn't go to Disney. We had ressies at our time share at Animal Kingdom Lodge. So, he brought AK to us...

The lobby ceiling was awesome with flying violins, boats, and other assorted goodies.

We have met with him two Fridays in a row. The first time he had on a Captain America tee shirt with a suit coat. Last Friday he had on a Superman tee, jeans and cowboy boots and showed off his biceps! We were told we probably wouldn't like him. We went in with no preconceived notions and absolutely adore him. He is a no nonsense type of doctor and gets right to the point, no frilly foo foo talk. That's what we want. He was the only doctor who suggested an MRI of the spine for the symptoms my husband had. The MRI showed a new tumor in the lower spinal canal. It wasn't the tumor in the hip or on the femurs that was causing the pain. Once he gave us the news, he immediately called our radiation oncologist, who is one of his friends, and explained everything over the phone. Today we see that doctor and the doc is pretty hopeful he will be able to radiate. We love that doctor too. He's been with us for two other body part radiations.

Although the past two weeks have been a bumpy road, we have had many blessings along the way. I like to focus on those.

Monday was surgery to remove his 3rd port in four years. They have run out of places in his chest to place another so they used his thigh...the one that is in pain to begin with! We had a rough time with that so they kept him overnight in the hospital. These are the pics of the lobby...

They have various piano players during the day and I felt like I was at the Grand Floridian for another DVC stay. I hope we get to use our real live DVC time shares soon. Disney has been fantastic with our last minute vacation club cancellations in light of our medical emergencies.

We were given a room on the top floor (8th) of the hospital and would have had a gorgeous view if it hadn't been raining. In the distance I pretended I saw mountains! The imagination can be a wonderful thing.

Thanks for stopping by today and going on this journey with me.

    1. Thank you, Amy. Good doctors make all the difference in the world...as do good nurses. One gave us her cell phone number and told us to call whenever we needed her even if she was on vacation. Of course, we won't do that but it's nice to know we can!

  5. Oh, Karen! I am so glad you know the Lord, otherwise this journey would be much worse for you and Perry. it is funny how making cards connects us when we have never met. Prayers and hugs for you both. If you have to be in a hospital, it looks like you are in one that at least considers more than just a persons medical issues. What a lovely lobby!!
