Stampin' Up1 Sunshine and Rainbows

I'm lucky I'm still sane after making this card...but maybe I'm not...

I never make a card that fits inside a business envelope, but I created it for a very difficult challenge at As You See It Challenge #181 - Pieces of the Sky

As I mentioned, this is a wide card (9 1/4" x 3 7/8"), it has one word for the sentiment (Teeny Tiny Wishes), it's a shaker card so the stars are my confetti and the rainbow from Sunshine & Rainbows speaks for itself! My inspiration for the layout came from Fab Friday 133

There were so many things that went wrong with this card but I persisted in making it. This is only my second shaker card but it was like I had never made one before.

I'm going to tell you what went wrong and you can skip this part if you want. I wish I could have skipped it!
  • ink on my finger which made a splotch on one of the clouds
  • too much glue on sequin stars I placed around the rainbow
  • cut wrong size window sheet
  • die cut wrong size top panel
  • star confetti stuck to sequin stars
  • dropped window sheet on panel and couldn't unglue it...I was becoming unglued, however!
  • Soft Sky sponge apparently had been used for Soft Suede so the edge turned out a putrid green
  • stamped the sentiment "for your shower" and glued it to the shaker panel
  • realized that the challenge was "one word"...lol
  • re-did the banner with just "shower" and added an "s" to the end...ask me how many times I tried before success...no, on second, thought don't
I added three Glitter & Clear Epoxy shapes (rain drops) in addition to stamped rain drops and that's the end of the front...and almost the end of me!!

For the inside, I printed out the sentiment on my computer and die cut it the same as the front. I colored the Springtime Foils DSP with Stampin' Write Markers and wish I had used my Blends, but I wanted lighter shades of the rainbow. Another hot mess!

I think this card might find it's way to the circular file but maybe not. It certainly was a lesson in what not to do!

  2. Heavens, Karen! Sounds like therapy might be in order after that traumatic session, but we've all had days like that, and I've probably had more than most. I'm glad you didn't let it beat you, but persevered so that we could all see your wonderful design ideas! This challenge was just meant for a rainbow in a shaker element. Kudos for taking on the challenge and I hope it didn't scare you off and you'll be back again soon to play with us at As You See It Challenge!

  3. You certainly understand the importance of perseverance, Karen! It gets to a point where you just not going to let a card beat you, doesn't it? Making a shaker to fit the recipe was a really clever idea. Thanks for sticking with it and joining us at As You See It.

  7. Oh. My. Gosh! Karen, my experience with the WOOD card pales in comparison, but Perseverance pays! Wow, great card, and it seems you met all the challenges with, pure stubbornness. A lesser person would have given up, but you stuck with it....literally! :-) Way to go!
